Glucotrol (glipizide) is an oral second-generation sylfonylurea anti-diabetic drug with a medium-to-long period of acting. The medicine lowers the level of glucose in the blood by initiating more insulin release. Glucotrol is used in combination with proper diet, exercise, weight control and testing blood sugar to treat high blood sugar levels caused by type 2 (non-insulin dependent, sugar) diabetes. It may be used as monotherapy or together with other anti-diabetic medicines. Glucotrol is the most effective when taken each day at the same time. It is almost completely absorbed and begins to work in 15-30 minutes after application.
